Philadelphia, Pa. - Tomiwa Ogunsola scored a pair of goals for James Madison as the 22nd-ranked Dukes (8-1-0, 3-0 CAA) played to a 3-0 victory over Drexel (4-5, 0-3 CAA). The Dragons' Anthony Bafile led the team with two shots, one of them on goal, as the Dragons were outshot 10-8 in the contest.
The CAA's leading scorer Kurt Morsink put the Dukes on top in the 28th minute when he lined up a direct kick at the top of the 18-yard box on the right side. Morsink blasted a low kick to the left side of Drexel's wall of defenders. The ball dove just inside the left post, tipping off the hand of diving keeper Cory Robertson before it went into the goal for a 1-0 James Madison lead.
Ogunsola scored the first of his goals in the 43rd minute when Tristan Murray hit him in full stride on the right side of the goal about 10 yards out. Ogunsola controlled the pass then chipped it back toward the middle of the goal past a diving Robertson for a 2-0 lead.
Bafile gave the Dragons one of their best scoring opportunities of the evening when he settled a ball at the top of the penalty box with less than a minute remaining in the first half. The freshman turned to kick a top-spin shot over a swarm of defenders but the ball hit the crossbar and rebounded away.
Ogunsola's second tally would come 10 mintues later, in the second period. This time he put back a rebound off a shot by Murray that ricocheted to the edge of the penalty box.
Drexel fought to the end and earned a pair of corner kicks in each half, to edge the Dukes 4-3 in the category. In the 29th minute the Dragons tried to take advantage of a quick reset after a contested foul at the edge of the 18-yard box, but James Madison's speedy defenders nullified the threat. In the 16th minute the Dragons had another opportunity when the Dukes' keeper Kevin Trapp strayed out to the edge of the box to contest a ball in the air. A host of Dragons broke up Trapp's attempt and headed the ball toward the middle of the goal, but no Drexel player could get a touch on the ball with the goalie out of position to capitalize.
Trapp posted one save for his third shutout of the season. Robertson made three stops in the loss. The Dragons return to the pitch on Sunday to challenge CAA foe Virginia Commonwealth at noon. The match will be televised regionally on CN8.
